Latifat Omolewa Shobogun
My name is Latifat Omolewa Shobogun, however, I prefer to be addressed by my second name, Omolewa. I come from the ancient city of Abeokuta, predominantly occupied by the Egba people of Southwestern Nigeria.
I hold a Bachelor's degree in History and International Studies from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Nigeria. It was during my undergraduate studies that my interest in the development process of the world - especially that of Africa – became deep-seated.
I am very passionate about the development of Africa. I love Africa and I love being African. I have a firm belief that leadership is the most important thing needed to develop Africa. Considering the fast-growing population and potential of African youths, I am committed to building young Africans into leaders that are fit to contribute to Africa’s development across different spheres of influence.
I founded Africa Raisers Initiative, now known as Ubuntu Leadership Education for Development Initiative (ULEDi) through which I (in collaboration with my team) equip young Africans in leadership skills and values, and educate them on the opportunities and challenges of Africa's development in different sectors.
While my key areas of interests are youth development, good governance and public policy, I always want to learn something about everything that affects Africa. This explains why European Interdisciplinary Master African Studies (EIMAS) - with its interdisciplinary approach to the study of Africa- is a perfect programme for me.
In my quest to fast track the process of development in Africa, I recognise the need for a broadened perspective. My stay in Europe will widen my view on the concept of development, in theory and in application. The next two years will be a time to be equipped.
I will give back my knowledge and experience towards achieving the Africa We Want.
