Pieter Claessens
With a passion for fostering sustainable development, my academic and professional journey has taken me across four continents, each experience deepening my understanding of global challenges and opportunities. Currently pursuing a Master's degree with a focus on advancing development initiatives in Africa, I draw from a rich interdisciplinary background in Economics, Sociology, and Politics. My studies are supported by a foundation in International Business & Management (BBA) and Social Sciences (BSc), blending theory with real-world application. My economic interests lie mostly in global dependency, resource exploitation, entrepreneurship and trade. My political interests lie in themes related to security, democracy and migration.
Languages have always been a gateway to understanding diverse cultures and perspectives. Fluent in Dutch, English, Spanish, and Portuguese, I’m also expanding my horizons with studies in French and Swahili. This linguistic diversity has been invaluable in my work, from collaborating with international teams as an International Account Manager in Colombia to serving as a Consular Advisor for the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where I contributed to shaping public policy and fostering international partnerships.
My professional experiences are deeply intertwined with a commitment to social and economic justice. Whether volunteering as a social worker, board member, teacher or coach, I’ve dedicated time to supporting refugees, ex-offenders and youth in my community, believing that real progress starts at the grassroots level. This commitment fuels my desire to contribute to meaningful, long-term solutions that empower individuals and communities.
My journey is guided by the belief that collaboration is key to creating a more equitable world. I look forward to engaging with like-minded professionals and thought leaders to craft strategies that drive social and economic transformation, both in Africa and beyond.
